RQ3 3.0 map list finalized! And other stuff...
We froze code and content a week ago. However, as software projects tend to do, the freeze period had a fair amount of activity. We've further refined the code AND the content. Fixed some more bugs and added some new much-needed features. The content's been tweaked even further and we have finally narrowed down our 3.0 map list.

Adding to the 21 maps that were in the previous release, RQ3 3.0 will include 10 new maps. We've decided to put 11 other maps into consideration for a future release as well. Yup, we had 21 maps in-progress or near completion that we were considering for the 3.0 release. The maps that will be included in 3.0 are: BLOCKWAR, CHILL, CITY, KUMANRU, PITFALL, SUBWAY, TEAMJUNGLE, THECLUB, URBAN2, and WATERFRONT. CHILL is a map that hasn't been seen since RQ3 1.x and SUBWAY's had a major enough reworking that we're releasing it as a new map. We also have a few updates of old maps such as BULLMARKET and ALPINEVALLEY, but they are only minor tweaks and bugfixes to existing maps so we're not counting them towards our new map total for 3.0.

We've completely tricked out our weapon model and skin replacement system and Birdman has prepared a tutorial to explain how to get your custom weapons working in RQ3 3.0. We are looking forward to community submissions that we can include in the official 3.1 release!

RQ3 3.0 also sees a new gameplay mode, Team Deathmatch. In fact, we have two minor variations of it depending on if you want a pure DM experience or a more TP-orientated DM experience. RQ3 3.0's main focus has been to add content and support for newer, custom content in future releases. With all the groundwork now laid, subsequent releases will feature even more gameplay modes and tweaks.

MoP, a talented modeler, animator, and skinner from the Polycount community, has put the finishing touches on what is now our new default male model, ReactionMale. It's a very flexible model and can have different accessories on the head, depending on how the skin is constructed. It'll be great to see what some of the community skinners can do with 'im!

We're wrapping up the finishing touches on our code and will be making our final installers and packages shortly. We intend on having a multi-part ZIP download for those not yet blessed with broadband. We had a last-minute scare about a potential cheat in Q3 only to discover that we had blocked it more than 6 months ago. Whew! Sometimes we don't even know how awesome we are! ;)

We are currently wrapping up the plans for our IRC release party in the official RQ3 channel, #reactionquake3 on irc.enterthegame.com. Hopefully we'll have some fun and trivia in store for y'all!
